Plymouth is chock full of really good food. From a quick bite to fine dining, the restaurant scene runs the gamut of dining options. My favorite spot for pub grub and a great craft beer has to be Speedwell Tavern.
Speedwell is a cool spot, with a dark interior and good music; either live or over the speakers. They are known for their burgers and wings and both are truly awesome. On burger night, where you get a burger and a draft beer for an amazing $10, Speedwell is packed with burger and beer enthusiasts.
Burger Time!
I often go with whatever special burger they have since I know it will be good. Some of their constants include the O’Bee Hive which is a burger topped with a stack of onion rings and covered with honey BBQ sauce. The cajun burger is also a crowd-pleaser. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with a burger at Speedwell Tavern!
Wings!
On the wing side of things, these are truly some of the best, if not the best, wings I’ve had. They come in a tremendous variety of flavors which include my three favorites: the Garlic Parm, Gold Digger Carolina BBQ, and Honey BBQ. The wings are really meaty. I like mine with medium heat where the taste is not obscured by the spiciness. With numerous flavors, and more added as specials, there is something for everyone.
Some folks visit Speedwell Tavern for their beer alone. I don’t blame them, although it would be hard to not order at least an order of wings alongside it. Speedwell hands down has the best beer selection in town. They may not have the most but it is a well-selected tap list. For instance, just in the last year or so Speedwell Tavern has had Channel Charge, the highly sought-out IPA collab between Trillium and Vitamin Sea, Maine Beer Company’s Dinner, and Bissell Brothers’ The Substance. Even when they don’t have these highly sought out beers, expect awesome local brews from Second Wind, Widowmaker, and Stellwagen.
Take out at Speedwell Tavern too!
Due to Covid, my Speedwell experiences for the last year have been either take-out or outdoor dining in warmer weather. Their take-out is just as good as dining in. And one of the highlights of my summer was imbibing on an excellent beer while noshing on their housemade potato chips while sitting outdoors. Speedwell Tavern is located at 47 Main Street in Plymouth, MA.
