Uva Wine Bar

Since opening two years ago, Uva Wine Bar has become one of Plymouth’s most popular destinations for a night or afternoon out. Uva is unique. It is a self-service wine bar. Customers choose from 48 different wines and can get different size pours depending on their preference. Wines of all styles from around the world are available at Uva. Not just a wine bar though, Uva has fantastic food options and a few beers available for those not wine inclined.

Try the Food

Charcuterie and a flatbread at Uva.

Owner Katy Thayer, when asked about the most popular wines that Uva Wine Bar serves, said, “It’s hard to choose, but the sauvignon blancs and cabernet wines seem to be very popular.” She also mentioned that the “build your own” charcuterie boards are her customers’ favorite food items. I can attest to the appeal of the charcuterie board. On my latest visit, I selected a few different types of meat, cheeses, and other snacks, which made the perfect combination. Pairing the charcuterie board with a flatbread pizza was a satisfying meal. I combined salami and prosciutto with manchego, cheddar, and brie cheese and added olives to boot. These were all presented with crackers that were the perfect vessel for my food pairing. The flatbread I ordered was topped with arugula, fig jam, and cheese, which was highly enjoyable.

Self-Serve Wine

To enjoy wine at Uva Wine Bar the customer receives a card that is put into the wine dispenser. From there, a button is pressed to determine the size that you wish. Have a full glass, a three-ounce pour, or a taste. Try one wine or sample many. The styles range from dark and dry to sweet and fruity. For someone like me who thinks the best part about drinking wine or beer is the sampling, it is the perfect option. Most often, I go with wine at Uva but at times I opt for a Mayflower New World IPA when wine is not what I desire.

Pick your pour

Asking Katy why being part of the Plymouth community is important to her, she states that since opening, “The community has welcomed us with open arms.” Thayer co-owns Uva Wine Bar with Michelle Manware. They searched other locales throughout the South Shore before deciding on Plymouth and are happy they did so. “The concept has proven to be a success from the start; we could not imagine being anywhere else now!” Additionally, Uva gives back to the community that supports them, by participating in a variety of fundraisers.

Time to Try Uva Wine Bar!

The Uva facade

Uva Wine Bar is located at 46 Main Street in Plymouth. Its location was formerly a large antique emporium although no traces of its past incarnation remain. The decor and interior were impeccably renovated. Uva has a sophisticated vibe but at the same time is comfortable for anyone. In warmer months, there is outdoor seating. This fall, with the opening of outdoor dining in Plymouth, noshing on cheeses, and sampling wine by a heat lamp, with strings of lights overhead, was reminiscent of being out on a Parisian night.
