I like to purchase my beer right from the source, at the brewery. If not, I’ll stop by one of my local Plymouth (MA) package stores. If I want to stock up on the essentials, though, I’m heading to MB Beer and Wine in Hanover. MB stands for Market Basket. This package store is located right next to the Market Basket grocery store in the Hanover Crossing shopping center.
In “Dumb and Dumber”, Harry tells Lloyd to only come back with the bare essentials. He shows up with a giant foam cowboy hat, pinwheels, a paddle ball game, and, of course, beer. When I’m looking to stock up on my version of the bare essentials- in this case, like bottles of Maine Beer Company’s Lunch, Lawson’s Sip of Sunshine, and Samuel Adams mixed packs- I make my way to MB Beer and Wine in Hanover, MA. All these are good to have in the fridge. In addition to that, the craft beer selection is one of the best in the area, featuring local, national, and international brands. Some like Wash Ashore and Greater Good, which used to be staples at my local packies but are now harder to find, are here.
Why drive to Hanover, you may ask? The biggest reason for me is the price. For instance, a Sam’s 12-pack runs about $2.50 less than at many stores. MBC Lunch is at a lower price than even buying from the brewery. One of the most striking was when I found Two Roads’ Road 2 Ruin Double IPA for $10.99 and at the next store I was at, $17.99!
Although I’m mostly beer shopping, they also have a wide variety of wine, as well.
Nothing beats buying beer right from the source at a brewery. And if I am picking up just one item, then a local packie does just fine. But if I’m stocking the fridge or preparing for a party, MB Beer and Wine is a must. Although I didn’t find Schaefer there during my last visit, MB Beer and Wine has the same mantra. It’s where I go when I want more than one. I just hope that on my next visit, I can also purchase a large foam cowboy hat!
