Favorite Mexican Restaurants in the Plymouth Area

The Plymouth area of Massachusetts was once upon a time a barren landscape in terms of Mexican restaurants. Cancun in Kingston has been cooking tasty Mexican food since 2006. But other than Sam Diego’s and fast food, this region was not a hotbed of south-of-the-border cuisine. In 2024, the ability to find an excellent burrito, taco, or plate of fajitas in the Plymouth area is easy. Here are some of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the Plymouth area.

La Bamba

Just like the Ritchie Valens song, La Bamba in Plymouth will make you sing. Located at 15 Sandwich Street in Plymouth in a building that once housed a Friendly’s and, more recently, a Dunkin’, it’s the perfect location for this inviting space. There is a scattering of booths, a well-equipped bar, and a few high tops. You’re not here for the seats though; you’re here for the food!

Marg flight at La Bamba in Plymouth

La Bamba does all of your Mexican favorites well. Tacos, enchiladas, burritos, fajitas–the list goes on. Some of my favorites include the street tacos, the La Bamba burrito, and the house-made chips and salsa which is muy bueno! Try a margarita flight. The strawberry, mango, and jalapeno are all very tasty. The mango though is my jam. It’s got a salt and pepper flaked rim that creates a sweet/salty masterpiece with every sip. In the nice weather, enjoy dining al fresco!

Su Casa

Su Casa from the street

While most of these favorite Mexican restaurants in the Plymouth area are more than suitable for kids, I like to reserve a meal at Su Casa for date night. This cozy spot on Court Street serves sophisticated Mexican or “modern Baja” cuisine. Instead of the typical beef or chicken tacos, think octopus, beef barbacoa, or an array of vegetables. The cocktails are fun and always delish.

Ocho Cafe

Another family-friendly crowd-pleaser is Ocho Cafe, also in Plymouth. It’s a mini-chain with four locations in Massachusetts and Connecticut. But each restaurant has a slightly different menu. Expect all the Mexican meals you desire: tacos, burritos, enchiladas, and fajitas, but done exceptionally well. Although this is located in the Colony Place shopping center, the interior feels a world away. Adorned in Mexican images, it’s as if you’re stepping over the border for a more authentic feel.

Casa Cancun

Cancun in Kingston has been open since 2006 and is perennially a favorite Mexican restaurant in the Plymouth area. With sister restaurants up the road in Marshfield (Don Bravo’s) and Wareham (Casa Cancun), the Cancun reach is far. For today’s meal, we’re heading southwest of Plymouth to Casa Cancun. The restaurant is located in the Wareham Crossing shopping plaza. It’s an attractive restaurant that packs all your favorite Cancun dishes in this location. Try the Casa Cancun burrito, the Asado burrito, or the pork carnitas tacos. Always satisfying!

Fiesta Charra

The menu may look familiar because Carver’s Fiesta Charra is the sister restaurant of La Bamba. The food is just as delicious and so are the drinks! If you’re looking for an out-of-town vibe, check out Fiesta Charra, a favorite Mexican restaurant in the Plymouth area.

Chains- Chili’s, Chipotle

Of course, the Plymouth area has its Mexican chains too. Among the better are Chipotle and Chili’s

If you’re looking for some of the favorite Mexican restaurants in the Plymouth area try Su Casa, La Bamba, Casa Cancun, Fiesta Charra, and Ocho Cafe!
