Backyard Road Trips

An Afternoon in Hanover

Sometimes a backyard road trip is planned ahead of time, and sometimes it presents itself unknowingly. The latter is how our afternoon in Hanover came underway. Hanover, Massachusetts, is a suburban town on the South Shore. Previously, we visited Hanover as a part of a family-friendly brewery trip combining sites in Hanover and neighboring Norwell.

Birthday Drop Off

The impetus for the outing was taking my oldest son to a birthday party at Starland. Starland is the mecca for children’s entertainment on the South Shore. Think mini golf, go-karts, laser tag, and more (in addition to many facilities for youth sports tournaments).

Tsang’s Village Cafe

Tsang’s

Our first stop was right across the street from Starland, Tsang’s Village Cafe. Tsang’s is a restaurant that specializes in Asian cuisine, including Chinese food and sushi. The interior is bright and inviting. Given that it was lunch, my wife and I had our own sushi lunch specials with a couple of pieces of sashimi and a roll of our choosing. It also comes with absolutely delicious fried sweet potato, a salad, and miso soup. We also split a Tuna Lover’s sushi roll.

Mmmmm… sushi

The meal was leisurely, as it was a rarity that we were out sans kids. Each course was tasty and the sushi was the star of the show. Living in nearby Rockland for a few years, Tsang’s was one of our regular eating options. It was good to be back, and it didn’t disappoint.

It’s making me hungry just looking at it.

Our Afternoon in Hanover continues

Unlike a typical backyard road trip, the next stop was Target, purchasing essentials and even a few Christmas presents to beat the rush. From there, we took Route 53 to Route 123 toward Norwell. In Norwell center, we headed back toward Starland, anticipating the pick up time. Route 123 is a busy road but lined with stately historic homes.

Bumper cars at Starland!

Ending at Starland, even the adults were able to join the fun. We watched Danny and his friends slam into one another in the bumper cars, and I was able to join them for a round of laser tag, which was a great time. After saying goodbye, it was time to head home as our afternoon in Hanover came to a close.
