In Plymouth, we are lucky to have some truly amazing bakeries. Hearth Artisan Bread and Guilty Bakery are only a couple that comes to mind. One of the newest in town is Keegan Kreations. This bakery, located in the heart of downtown, is making some truly delectable “kreations.”
At Keegan, do not expect to find simply doughnuts and muffins. These are artisanally crafted bread items such as croissants and morning buns. The selection of baked goods would not be out of place in Paris or some old-world city. Nothing is loaded with sprinkles or full dipped in chocolate. Each treat is a work of art, allowing one to savor the freshness of each bite of bread.
Croissants
After a morning run, I like to stop here to grab a few different breakfast items. (Granted this probably negates the health benefits of the run.) My favorites include the croissants, both chocolate-stuffed and plain, as well as the monkey bread and the morning bun. The croissants are light, flaky, and crusty with a hint of sweetness to them. The chocolate-filled version is not overwhelmingly chocolaty, retaining the croissant flavor impeccably. Owner Thim Lee (who goes by his nickname, “Keegan”) says that the croissant is the most popular menu item.
Morning Buns
The morning buns are shaped like muffins, reminiscent of a popover that meets a light doughnut. These are airy, hollow in the middle, and truly delicious. They are sprinkled with sugar for a sweet taste, but just like the previously mentioned items, the result is never over the top. The monkey bread is decidedly sweeter but not cloying.
Once in the autumn, I had a gingerbread muffin with a cream cheese filling. Another pastry that sounds as if it would be cavity-inducing is also not too sweet. The cream cheese balances with the muffin phenomenally. Don’t expect to know exactly what is available that day until your journey into the bakery. They may have a morning bun or they may not. Whatever they do have, I promise, will be superb. Cakes and coffee are also available at Keegan Kreations, although I have yet to try either.
