Hearth Artisan Bread

If you’re looking for the best bread in Plymouth, or practically anywhere, look no farther than Hearth Artisan Bread. Located in the Industrial Park at 123 Camelot Drive, Hearth is a small store that is large on flavor. Hearth opened in 2010 by husband and wife co-owners, Peter and Nicole Nyberg. Peter brought with him a storied career in baking and Nicole, an extensive background in sales.

For me, the hardest part about picking up a loaf (or three) of bread at Hearth is bringing it home. Typically about half of the loaf is eaten in the car by the time my family and I arrive back home, even though the journey is about five minutes long.

My Favorites

A personal favorite, the sour dough.

Hearth’s bread comes in many varieties. Among my favorites are the sourdough, the cranberry orange ginger, and the kalamata olive. Each of these is completely distinct from the other. The cranberry orange ginger is the perfect balance of sweet and tart, with the cranberries and the candied ginger complementing each other on the taste buds.

The sourdough is the ideal loaf for all-around usage. Fresh from the oven, the bread is soft, slightly chewy, and simply delicious. The sourdough is fantastic for bookending a deli sandwich, eating with butter, or mixing it up with something sweet like peanut butter and fluff. The kalamata olive is also a favorite of mine. There are literal chunks of kalamata infusing this soft bread.

Special Occasion Breads

The Stollen (wrapped)

There are other treats here too, including the sweet and decadent monkey bread. The Stollen, available only during the holidays, is a German holiday bread, a kind of fruit cake whose crust is covered in powdered sugar. According to Nicole Nyberg, another seasonal favorite is the Irish Soda Bread which is available around St. Patrick’s Day. Make sure to try the bagels and the pizza at Hearth Artisan Bread too. The bagels are doughy and come in a variety of styles. The pizza is baked with their signature artisan bread and is quite large.

Time to visit Hearth!

Regarding the Plymouth community, Nicole elaborates, “We have met many wonderful people throughout our 10 years in business here. It is terrific to be part of such a vibrant and caring community!” With Hearth’s reputation spread by word of mouth, its customer base continues to grow as Hearth has become a Plymouth institution.

Hearth Artisan Bread

Hearth’s bread is used in many area restaurants. My suggestion though is to go right to the bakery. Hearth Artisan Bread is small with only room enough for a few people inside, so don’t be discouraged to see a line out front. It moves quickly and is totally worth any wait.

  1. Oh wow, I love a nice loaf of baked bread, especially sourdough! Too bad Plymouth is so far away … or maybe that’s a good thing! ????
