Burlington Beer Company- Elaborate Metaphor

As I sip this tasty pale ale, Elaborate Metaphor by Burlington Beer Company, I find myself overwhelmed as the fond memories begin to wash over me harkening back to my past experiences with this brewery.

Tasty!
Yummmmm

The First Cut is the Deepest

Memorial Day 2017. I was in line at The Alchemist (which ran out the door), anxious to bring home my favorite beer in the world, Heady Topper. (Call me cliche, but there is simply nothing quite like it). It was a gorgeous day, my wife was in the car with our sleeping son, and I was enjoying the conversation of my fellow linemates.

Talking about beer (it’s usually that or baseball), and the guy behind me tells me that I NEED to try It’s Complicated Being a Wizard by Burlington Beer Company. What did he just say? I felt disillusioned since I thought I had a decent handle on the “it” beers coming out of Vermont. I had never heard of Burlington Beer Company! Well, that would change. Although I only stocked up with Alchemist that trip, the thought of the Wizard never left my mind.

Always on My Mind

Fast forward two months later to July 2017. Back in Stowe for another family road trip. My son fell asleep (yes again) so we decided to take a ride further down Route 100 into the Mad River Valley. In Warren, I NEEDED (these are essential things you know) to stop at the famed Warren Store, in hopes a rare Lawson’s would be available. Alas, they only had Sip of Sunshine and whichever Super Session was in stock. I did come away with one prize, a beer by Burlington Beer Company.

It wasn’t the Wizard, instead, it was the Beekeeper, an IPA aged with Yellow Birch. I was not disappointed. Hazy with a hint of honey. That began my love affair with Burlington Beer Company.

At Last

I later was able to get my paws on It’s Not Complicated Being a Wizard (at a grocery store nonetheless) on the following trip. Delicious. If you get a chance to have a Wizard on tap, please do so. (Can is superb, but I have fond memories of drinking it on tap at Bentley’s.) In visiting Woodstock Hops and Barley (in Woodstock, Vermont) each trip I came away with a different four pack from them. Each time the beers did not disappoint.

What to my surprise when venturing into my local Craft Beer Cellar in Plymouth this February to find that Burlington Beer Company I can now find less than a quarter mile from my house! In addition to this, the local package store, Bradford’s even stocks them! I just saved myself whole lotta car miles since I can now reach this beer on foot.

Tonight, I Celebrate My Love

Tonight, I’m enjoying the Elaborate Metaphor New England Pale Ale. (thanks, Mike!) It has a citrusy mouthfeel with a dash of bitterness. It’s as juicy and flavorful as an IPA (which typically my complaint about Pale Ales are that they are lacking something). Just like everything I have had by them, it’s delicious and I’m happy to say I can now purchase it locally.
