Looking for a satisfying outing for the whole family just south of Boston? Try a walk around Houghton’s Pond, followed by lunch at Trillium Brewing Company in Canton.
Houghton’s Pond

Located in Milton, Houghton’s Pond is part of the Blue Hills Reservation. In warmer weather, swimming is available. In any season, though, it makes for a perfect mini-hike with smaller children. Kids will feel a sense of accomplishment as they work their way around it. During the fall, the trees burst with color. In the winter, it’s short enough in length to make it bearable even on a blustery day.

Unlike many of the trails in the Blue Hills that scale vertically, the Houghton’s Pond loop is flat. There’s also a playground near the parking lot that can be used as a reward for finishing the trek.
Trillium Brewing Company
Only a few short minutes of a car ride takes you to Trillium Brewing Company. Just like Houghton’s Pond, Trillium has something to offer in every season. During the warmer months, outdoor seating is plentiful, and in the winter, there’s an ice skating rink. No skates? No problem! Renting ice skates is available.

All year long, though, some of the best beer in New England is flowing through the many taplines inside of Trillium’s behemoth flagship location. (This was the former Reebok world headquarters after all!). Two dining and drinking areas are available indoors. During busy times, reservations are recommended to snag high or low top seating. The other area is first-come, first-served, drink or eat wherever you can. This is also where beer is ordered, both for on-site consumption and to-go.

Place an order for one of their crispy wood-fired pizzas, too! It’s the perfect slice of comfort food after gliding on the ice rink or hiking around Houghton’s Pond. Pair this with Trillium classics such as Congress Street IPA, Fort Port Pale Ale, or PM Dawn Stout.

Houghton’s Pond and Trillium Brewing Company are the perfect duo any time of the year.
