Although Thanksgiving is in the rearview mirror, we’re going to look at the best Gobbler sandwiches in Plymouth, Massachusetts–America’s Hometown! Given Plymouth’s history with the First Thanksgiving and its exquisite dining scene, this is a town where a good Gobbler should be easy to find.
Before we dig in, let’s talk about the Gobbler. Eateries call this sandwich different names: Gobblers, Thanksgiving sandwiches, Day After Thanksgiving, Puritan, and Pilgrim. At a former coffee shop in my hometown, they called it the Ben Franklin. Whatever you want it to be called, we’re talking roasted turkey, cranberry sauce, and stuffing between two slices of bread.
We’re touring America’s Hometown, from downtown to the industrial park to the waterfront in pursuit of the best Gobbler sandwiches in Plymouth.
Stracco’s

Stracco’s Pilgrim is served on a fresh sub roll and is a thing of beauty. It’s a Thanksgiving dinner rolled up in a sub, with turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and mayo all complementing each other in every bite and served on a perfect roll. The turkey is roasted on site and hand-sliced; this definitely is not Oscar Mayer! Whenever I visit Stracco’s it’s hard for me to order anything else!
The Yellow Deli

The next sandwich on our list of the best Gobblers in Plymouth is the ever-controversial Yellow Deli. Whatever one may think of the 12 Tribes that operate the deli, what can’t be denied is how good the food is. The soups and sandwiches are among the best in town and their Cranberry Gobbler is a real winner. Wedged inside a ciabatta bun, the roast turkey, cranberry sauce, and stuffing make an excellent sandwich.
Portly Pilgrim
Portly Pilgrim is located in a tiny storefront at the Village Landing marketplace. This hole-in-the-wall is only open for breakfast and lunch and stays open until the meat runs out. The sandwiches are superb. They have many variations of the Gobbler, but two that are the most true to form are the Day After Thanksgiving Bird and the Governor Bradford. The Bradford is served on a panini, where the D.A.T. is on a bulkie roll. Pick your preference because either way, this sandwich, as the kids say, slays! Sink your teeth into one of these, and the turkey, stuffing, bread, and cranberry sauce just melt in your mouth.
Jolly Bean Cafe

The Jolly Bean is another breakfast and lunch spot. It is located in the Camelot Drive Industrial Park. It’s known for an array of breakfast sandwiches, coffee drinks, and salads. They make an excellent Gobbler, with a twist! The Jolly Pilgrim is served on a wrap. Just as tasty, the Gobbler ingredients blend together nicely in wrap format, providing a nibble of each ingredient in each delicious bite.
Plimoth General Store

The Plimoth General Store is your one-stop shop as a general store should be. Packed with souvenirs, clothes, and toys, the store also sells wine and beer, and specialty food products. In addition to all of this, they also have a deli that sells sandwiches, salads, and coffee drinks. Around Thanksgiving, look for their variation of the Gobbler. Stacked roasted turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mayo, and a thin layer of cheese is a perfect accompaniment to the holiday!
*Bonus- Bongi’s Turkey Roost
Bongi’s has been in existence for more than 70 years! This landmark is in the town of Duxbury, not far from Plymouth. Bongi’s is the perfect place to buy the food for your next Thanksgiving meal, but one of their top sellers is the Original Turkey Sandwich. Hint–this turkey sandwich is a Gobbler, but I love how its name is the “original” since most restaurants wouldn’t include cranberry and stuffing in a basic sandwich. It’s served on two slices of white bread and cut down the middle. Always satisfying.
From the Plymouth waterfront to downtown to the industrial park with a sidetrip up Route 53 in Duxbury, these are the best Gobbler sandwiches in Plymouth. If you’re feeling the pre-Thanksgiving hunger pangs, reach for one of these tasty beauties!
