Backyard Road Trips

Peddler’s Village and New Hope, PA

There’s so much to explore in Bucks County, Pennsylvania! From the hip Doylestown to the bustling New Hope to family-friendly attractions such as Sesame Place, there is plenty to do! For this Backyard Road Trip, we’re heading into one of the can’t-miss destinations in Bucks, Peddler’s Village.

Peddler’s Village is a collection of 65 shops of all kinds, various dining options, and even an inn, all situated in a picturesque setting reminiscent of a charming village. Peddler’s Village is a shopping complex but feels like a destination in itself. It began in 1962 as the vision of Earl and Sheila Jamison. Although many of the buildings were built for shopping, other historical structures were included in the complex. The circa mid-19th-century Golden Plough Inn is folded into the village as a dining and lodging destination.

The Cloak and Wand was a hit

Among the vast number of stores here are Pine Wreath and Candle, a candle shop, the Cloak and Wand, a fantasy shop and potion bar, and Colt’s Sports Collectibles. The latter two were among my kids’ favorites. The Lahaska Bookshop is certainly worth a peek into; it has a great selection of titles and features a well-stocked children’s section. Peddler’s Village has entertainment, including live music and seasonal activities, such as a special tree lighting event or elaborate sand castles in the summertime. There are a few restaurants to choose from if you get hungry, including the Cock ‘n Bull, the Buttonwood Grill, and Mama Hawks. Mama Hawks was a perfect stop for a coffee or a smoothie, a panini or a cup of soup.

Extending Your Trip

Technically, Peddler’s Village is located in Lahaska, but for all intents and purposes, it’s just outside New Hope. New Hope is an incredible little town that is absolutely teeming with tourists, stores, and activity. From antiquing to boutiquing, shopping to nightlife, New Hope has so much to do. Cross the New Hope-Lamberville Bridge, and you’re in New Jersey. Lambertville looks and feels like an extension of New Hope. With tons of quaint lodging options, it’s easy to use one of these two towns as your home base while visiting Bucks County.

Route 32 North

For a simply gorgeous scenic drive, head north on Route 32 from New Hope. This windy road hugs the banks of the Delaware River and passes through tiny villages. Feel free to stop if you wish or simply enjoy the route. For my ride, I followed the route to Upper Black Eddy, but the road continues to Kintersville, where it connects with Route 611.

With so much to do in Bucks County, it’s easy to spend a week-long vacation. Peddler’s Village is a perfect half-day visit. Combine it with New Hope and Lambertsville, and it’s perfect for an all-day excursion.

Make sure to visit Pedder’s Village, just outside of New Hope, PA!
