Mexican Food, Music and Beer- A Six Pack

Before the tariffs increase enjoy your cheap avocados while you can! Today we’re figuratively crossing the Southern border for Mexican food, accompanied by a Mexican beer while listening to Mexican music.

Enchilada with Santana and Tree House’s El Mago

To kick off our Mexican food, music, and beer article, I ordered takeout at my neighborhood Mexican restaurant, La Bamba in Plymouth, Massachusetts. The enchilada was so tasty you might say it is otherworldly, almost supernatural if you will. This inspired me to crank Santana’s 1999 comeback album, Supernatural, all while washing it down with Tree House’s take on a Mexican-style lager, the El Mago. Si!

Taco with Rodrigo y Gabriela and Maine Beer Company’s Black Barn Project #46.

You can’t get much more north in the continental USA than Maine, but lo and behold the always excellent Maine Beer Company brings us a Mexican-style lager as part of their rotating Black Barn Project series. Pair it with a homemade taco and the instrumental stylings of Rodrigo y Gabriela and you’ve got a memorable meal.

Quesadilla with Selena and a Dos Equis

My kids choose a cheese quesadilla when we go out to eat at a Mexican restaurant, or even Chipotle. Stealing their cheese quesadilla, I raced to my room, blasted some Selena on the tape deck, grabbed a cold Dos Equis, and gobbled up their quesadilla. And proceeded to hear three wailing children downstairs.

Burrito with Mana and Banded’s Wicked Bueno Mexican style lager

A Wicked Bueno meal, burrito and music combo

The most bueno of the bunch on all sides was the excellent super chicken burrito from Anna’s Taqueria, the restaurant that got me hooked on Mexican food in the first place. Taking one to go, I enjoyed my Anna’s while listening to Mana with a cold Wicked Bueno cerveza in hand from Banded Brewing, which was my favorite of the beers I tried.

Fajitas with Cafe Tacuba and a Corona

A fajita, unwrapped

Next up for my Mexican food, music, and beer is a plate of sizzling fajitas. Heading back to La Bamba, this was a close second for food, with the Rock en Espanol group Cafe Tacuba blaring in the background with an ice-cold Corona. I like the fajitas mixta, a combo of shrimp, chicken, and steak. YUMMM!

Chips and Guacamole with Ozomatli and a Modelo

Chips and guac always hit the spot!

It’s more of an appetizer we’re enjoying for our last dish for our Mexican food, music, and beer. Who doesn’t love chips and guac though? (And remember, that guac will be muy expensivo soon!) A perfect appetizer which is best while listening to Ozomatli with a frosty Modelo, just like I did at La Bamba.

If you weren’t hungry or thirsty or wanted to listen to music, I’m sure you desire all of the above now! If you’ve enjoyed our six pack series on Mexican food, music, and beer, make sure to check out the other related BYRT posts, muy bien!
