Since I wrote the book Distilled in Boston, my wife, Jackie, has become somewhat of a mixologist. From collecting recipes and stockpiling gifted bottles of local spirits, she has the right tools for the trade. One of her most recent creations, the Blue Ginger Fizz, is a refreshing treat. Made with gin and highlighted with blueberries, it’s perfect for the warmer months but works well in the winter too.
The Recipe for the Blue Ginger Fizz
1.5 oz gin (I prefer Short Path’s flagship gin)
A few blueberries
Simple syrup
A splash of ginger beer (I use Fever Tree)
Lemon wedge
- Muddle the blueberries
- Add blueberries, gin, and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker
- Shake, and strain, leaving blueberry skins behind
- Pour into a glass and top with ginger beer to your liking
- Float a few blueberries on top and garnish with a lemon wedge
- Sip and enjoy
The Blue Ginger Fizz is fairly simple to make, but the natural blueberry tastes blend nicely with a smooth gin such as the flagship from Short Path. Sweeten it just a bit and add the zing of ginger beer. Cheers!
