My favorite drink reference is the Mr. Boston Official Bartender’s Guide. Generations of guides are available online but I still like to utilize the hard copy. The latest print edition is from 2012, edited by the Cocktail Guru Jonathan Pogash. In my book, it’s the perfect mojito. For the light rum, I keep it local with Twenty Boat Rum from South Hollow Spirits. What I love about the mojito is that its most distinct flavor grows wild in my backyard, mint! Let’s check out this mojito recipe.
The Mr. Boston Guide mojito recipe is as follows:
3 lime wedges
8-10 fresh mint leaves
¾ oz simple syrup
2 oz. light rum
Garnish: fresh mint sprig
Muddle the limes, mint, and syrup in a Collins glass. Add the rum to the ice and stir well. Top with soda water. Garnish with mint.
Pretty simple! About 15 years ago mojitos were, as they say, having a moment. All different flavors could be found on bar menus. My favorite is the classic mojito, where the rum and mint combine into a refreshing, yet complex, drink. Sticking to local, the Twenty Boat Rum is an excellent choice. It’s smooth and perfect for a cocktail such as this. I also try to stick to local with the soda water by using unflavored Polar (out of Worcester, MA) Seltzer. Cheers!
