Backyard Road Trips

Charlie’s First Backyard Road Trip

My oldest son, Danny, was extremely excited to welcome his youngest brother, Charlie, into the Backyard Road Trips fold. For his maiden journey, Danny wanted to take him to some of his favorite Backyard Road Trips. In this case, all are located in Plymouth, Massachusetts, and all are walkable from our house. Charlie’s first backyard road trip included the Nathaniel Morton Elementary School playground, Brewster Gardens, and Nelson Park.

My older sons went through a phase of perpetually wanting to go to the nearby elementary school playground. Although not such a big deal to Danny these days since it is the school he attends, he wanted to make sure Charlie visited this playground on his first backyard road trip.

Although Charlie may be too young to climb the playscape, he is the perfect size for the larger swing. Just like his brothers at this age, he was all smiles while being pushed in the swing. His brothers looked on from nearby swings or from the playscape.

Only a short walk away from the playground, Brewster Gardens is a perfect place for my kids to romp around. With fountains, a bridge, and tunnels, it’s a world of fun. Danny made sure that Charlie also visited here on his first backyard road trip. Here he liked viewing the ducks in the Town Brook. Charlie may be too young to enjoy the history of the place, but he did enjoy the wildlife and taking a stroller ride through the park.

I think playgrounds might be a theme here! Danny wanted Charlie to try the swings here at Nelson Park while he and his brother Tommy ran around the playground. In addition to the playground, Charlie enjoyed looking at the ocean and taking a stroller ride on the seaside rail trail that leads to the park.

For Charlie’s first backyard road trip, Danny made sure to take him to some of his favorite places in Plymouth. Nelson Park, the playground at NMES, and a walk (or stroller ride) through Brewster Gardens all fit the bill.
