Backyard Road Trips

April Family Road Trip to Plymouth

For Massachusetts schools, spring vacation is upon us. With warm weather already here, let’s take a taste of summer on the South Shore. During this vacation, we recommend an April family road trip to Plymouth for a high-flying breakfast, fun at an arcade, and the best ice cream around.

Outdoor dining at Plane Jane’s Place

Plane Jane’s Place

It’s right at the airport

Our April family road trip to Plymouth begins in West Plymouth. A cute breakfast nook called Plane Jane’s Place is at the Plymouth Municipal Airport. Breakfast and lunch only but I typically opt for breakfast. I go for classics: eggs, pancakes, and omelets.

Indoor dining

Watch planes taking off and landing as you’re munching on home fries. There are tables indoors and outdoors, so take your pick. The kids will love to climb into the model plane as well.

High-flying fun

Ryan Family Amusements Arcade

Next stop: the arcade!

It’s time to head to Plymouth’s bustling waterfront for our next two stops for our April family road trip to Plymouth. The Ryan Family Amusements arcade is located at the rotary. Unlike most places in Plymouth, there is actually a parking lot behind it.

Giant Space Invaders

The arcade has a variety of video games and games of chance, all with the ultimate goal of winning tickets. From a giant Space Invaders screen to skee ball, there’s something here for everyone. Danny and Tommy very much enjoyed the air hockey table and Tommy also liked the ride on animals.

Peaceful Meadows

Peaceful Meadows at Village Landing

For the tastiest ice cream around, try Peaceful Meadows. It’s located inside the Village Landing shops just across South Park Avenue from the arcade. You can keep the car parked at the arcade or move to the Village Landing lot.

A cup of Peaceful Meadows’ ice cream.

Peaceful Meadows is hands down the best ice cream in Plymouth and for my money, the best on the South Shore. The main dairy and stand are in Whitman. They make amazing ice cream but a frappe is another delicious choice. I often choose flavors such as cappuccino chunk or raspberry chip.

Our April Family Road Trip to Plymouth

Our April family road trip to Plymouth comes to an end.

Plymouth has so much to offer the vacationing or the backyard road-tripping family. These three stops– Plane Jane’s Place for breakfast, the arcade at Ryan Family Amusements, followed by ice cream at Peaceful Meadows are guaranteed to be tasty and fun.
