Brotherhood and a Six Pack

It’s time to raise a pint to brotherhood! We’re digging out of the crates six “brother” bands, not bands that have to be brothers (but many are) but have the word “brother” in the name. All the beers are ones to say “cheers” with. It’s not the most buzzworthy beer collection but ones that promote a bit of fellowship. Without further ado, it is time for Brotherhood and a Six Pack.

The Avett Brothers and Guinness

Although the Clancy Brothers might have been more appropriate, the Avett Brothers are a fun way to start the six-pack. Either way, a toast of a Guinness certainly embodies the idea of fellowship that is found in this six-pack.

The Wood Brothers and Samuel Adams Boston Lager

Wood Brothers and Sam Adams

The first track by the Wood Brothers that struck me was their version of “I Got Loaded,” the classic Mardi Gras number. What better to add than a song about drinking? Although not quite as potent as the wine, gin, and whiskey mentioned in the song, one Sam Adams will hardly get you loaded; it is another fellowship beer. Just the image alone of Sam Adams raising a pint conjures up feelings of brotherhood. As one of the first staples of the craft beer movement, Boston Lager has been promoting fellowship for decades.

The Allman Brothers and Mayflower’s Thanksgiving Ale

The Allmans are certainly the best known of the “brother” bands. Pairing them is sort of a gimmie, and the Thanksgiving Ale is another beer to split and share among friends. Perfect for the late autumn feast.

The Doobie Brothers and Miller High Life

You’ll be drinking this High Life “minute by minute.” Another all-time brothers band, the Doobies round out number four. Although yacht rock season in New England is waning, it’s always summer with a High Life and the Doobies.

Brothers Comatose and Ayinger’s Celebrator

Brothers Comatose and Celebrator

The most obscure of the brother bands is the folky Brothers Comatose, listen to their take on the popular track, “Valerie.” The Celebrator is a Doppelbock, depicted by the popular ram image. If you’re celebrating, why not raise a Celebrator?

The Chemical Brothers and Independent Fermentations’ Triumph Blonde Ale

The Chemical Brothers and IndieFerm

Brothers bands come in all shapes, sizes, and music styles. Take the Chemical Brothers. Unlike much of this folk and rock six-pack, the Chemical Brothers are one of the most popular techno duos to grace a DJ booth. For the last beer, it’s a sun-shiny blonde ale, a tasty treat from Plymouth, Massachusetts’ Independent Fermentations, or Indieferm for short.

With so many brother bands to share this moment of pure fellowship, these artists and beer will satisfy. Raise a pint and cheers for Brotherhood and a Six Pack!
