Recently the gang and I found ourselves at Rod & Rail, a new eatery in Buzzards Bay, which is part of Bourne, Massachusetts. Rod & Rail is the newest creation from the folks that brought you Driftwood Public House in Plymouth. Driftwood was an uber-hip gastro pub that started the stuffed pretzel craze and had an excellent beverage menu.
Rod & Rail continues the funky vibe that Driftwood started. It is small and dark inside and looks like it could have once housed a local watering hole. With a craft beer and cocktail-heavy menu, it would seemingly be not a kid-friendly establishment. Not so! They not only offer a kid’s menu but also even have high chairs upon request.
Dinner at Rod & Rail
With crayons to color with, my kids were happy while waiting for our food. I chose the steak tacos. These are utterly delicious with fresh cotija cheese. It was one of those meals where each tender bite needs to be savored. My wife was very happy with her burger. For a side salad, I had a bed of arugula with a light vinaigrette and red pickled onions.
My kids both chose mac and cheese for their dinners. It is served in a hefty crock with a side of fries. The creamy dish was excellent, as I helped polish off both of their meals.
Rod & Rail is a comfortable experience for the whole family with simply excellent meals. It is located at 149 Main Street in Buzzards Bay, which is on the mainland side of Cape Cod right in the shadow of the Cape Cod Canal Railroad Bridge. Couple this meal with a walk on the Cape Cod Canal Path.
