For my kids, one of their favorite backyard road trips is just a quick jaunt down the street to the Plymouth Public Library! Between picking books and movies and playing in the children’s room, a stop here is always an adventure. My younger son even has his own routine whenever we head to the library.
Our Latest Visit to the Library
The Plymouth Public Library is located a short drive (or walk) from downtown at 132 South Street. It is housed in a stately brick building that has retained a newness about it. Our first stop upon entering is to pick up the materials that I came for since I never know how long our other diversions may take. Upon my latest visit, I picked up the book Drunkard (no it’s not my new autobiography) in the nonfiction section.
Tommy, the younger one, is used to heading upstairs to the adult fiction section first, so even when we don’t need to go, he marches up the red-carpeted stairs. Upon arrival on the second floor, it’s taking the elevator back down to floor 1. From there we head to the children’s room. This is pure magic for the kids. The fish tank draws the kids in first. Try to find the statues of Dory and/or Nemo, but make sure not to tap the glass!
The Children’s Room
The play area is always a good time. There is a kitchen set and one of those block-like structures, often found at the doctor’s office, where beads are pushed along a path that twists and turns. They will take a ride on the rocking horses, and then it’s time to pick out some books. Tommy is often drawn to the seasonal display books or the more childish board books. On our last visit, I found an action comic of Jurassic Park for Danny before leaving,
Danny, the older one, heads to the video game section which has Nintendo Switch games. Just like visiting the video rental store when I was younger, this is a great way to experience the game before possibly purchasing it. He has taken out titles including those from the Mario, Sonic, and Crash Bandicoot series.
The Plymouth Public Library is one of my kids’ favorite easy destinations. It always leaves them happy between exploring, playing, and checking out books, movies, and video games.
