Backyard Road Trips

Kame Restaurant

Sometimes sushi just simply hits the spot. No longer are the days when finding sushi is rare. One can find a decent sushi roll much easier than in the past. One sushi restaurant that I have been wanting to try for a very long time was Kame in Beverly, Massachusetts. Open since 2000, Kame is certainly not the new guy on the block. Kame is simply a spot for excellent sushi.

Sushi at Kame Restaurant in Beverly

Vibrant downtown Beverly is full of many dining options. Located at 250 Cabot Street, Kame is marked by a red awning. My visit occurred on a weeknight. I stopped in for an early dinner after a visit to the Deacon Giles Distillery, researching for my newest book project.

Entering Kame

Eating at Kame Restaurant

A seat by the window

Arriving around five, I was one of the only customers. Seated by the window, I perused the sushi menu and eventually settled on a few sushi rolls. I do not often dine by myself but at Kame, it was easy to do so, and did not feel awkward at all. I settled upon the Alaskan roll, a yellowtail scallion, and a crunchy roll.

Time for Sushi!

A whole mess of sushi!

The crunchy roll is a specialty: tuna, whitefish, salmon, avocado, and scallions inside, with the outside, dipped in tempura. For tempura-based sushi, I typically cannot have too many pieces. This is done with perfection. The batter complements the ingredients inside. I often choose an Alaskan roll when eating sushi. I feel it is a good way to compare restaurants. Simple, with salmon and avocado, the roll was fresh and delightful. Rounding out the three is the yellowtail scallion which I also thought was delicious, tasting the flavor of the fish and the scallion concurrently.

Heading back to the car

Between bites, I reviewed my notes from the distillery. The waitstaff was very friendly and prompt. I enjoyed my experience at Kame. The sushi was fantastic and altogether Kame was a comfortable dining destination that I would head back to the next time I’m craving sushi on the North Shore!
