Backyard Road Trips

Cafe on Main

For years, Stowe, Vermont has been my family’s number one vacation destination. Something about the mountain air, out-of-doors experiences, and exceptional provisions make this town somewhere that I go back to again and again. Although many of the places that we frequent, be it something outdoors such as the rec path or a favorite restaurant, are repeat offenders, sometimes we stumble upon someplace new. On my latest visit, we noshed at Cafe on Main, which is located in the same building as Stowe Mercantile and Bear Pond Books.

Lunch at Cafe on Main

We often venture into this building to look around the bookstore and the mercantile and might even grab a coffee at the cafe. This time though, we decided to stick around for lunch. Cafe on Main, hence the name, is situated right on Main Street in the thick of Stowe Village. It’s a superb location for foot traffic which means it is often busy. The crowds have deterred us before from actually eating in but on this visit, we were there at an off-peak hour.

Hiding behind our healthy lunches

Dirty Chai Latte Please!

MMMMM a dirty chai latte

Currently, I have been working on a series of mixtapes (see: playlists) to accompany various coffee drinks. With a variety of lattes on the menu, I ordered the dirty chai latte. It was quite delicious with the flavors of the chai and steamed milk blending nicely. My wife also ordered a coffee.

My sandwich

For lunch, I chose a turkey club while she had a tuna sandwich. Simple certainly, but my club sandwich just hit the spot. Made on fresh bread, the turkey and accompanying bacon and veggies all were in the perfect ratio to one another, making it a very enjoyable sandwich. As it was a bit of a between time, my kids both chose very large chocolate chip cookies for their lunch, I mean “treat.”

Heading to Cafe on Main

And eating the cookie

For the four of us, Cafe on Main was a very tasty, but also comfortable and kid-friendly, place to grab a quick bite in the middle of Stowe. My coffee drink was well crafted and with an extensive drink menu, I certainly will be back to try another concoction. If you’re looking for a warm beverage, bakery item, or sandwich, check out Cafe on Main in Stowe. It is located at 38 Main Street and is open for breakfast and lunch seven days a week.
