Backyard Road Trips

Star of Siam

For the best Thai food in the South Shore, look no farther than the Manomet section of Plymouth. This small take-out-only kitchen has been cooking the area’s best Thai food for around 30 years.

The sign of Siam

Located right on busy Route 3A in the beachside village of Manomet, Star of Siam is easy to drive right past its location at 589 State Road. Calling ahead is a must since the wait here (even with calling ahead) can be up to an hour. The restaurant is only open for dinner from Wednesday to Sunday.

At Star of Siam

It’s also a place that sustains its popularity through word of mouth. I heard about it initially from a neighbor, but it seems that everyone that’s lived in Plymouth for more than a few months knows about Star of Siam. Owner and chef Sompit greet visitors with a friendly smile and a conversation when picking up food at Star of Siam.

What to Order at Star of Siam

An appetizer combo and Pad Thai

My typical order includes chicken pad thai, and an appetizer combo. Another meal that I have enjoyed multiple times is chicken paradise. The pad thai is much different than most standard pad thai dishes that I’ve had. For one, the portions are quite large. A single portion can easily feed two people. The pad thai is a bit sweeter than traditional pad thai dishes. It tends to have a bit of heat behind it too, even when it is served mild. It comes with an extra container of sprouts and lettuce to be served with gooey noodles. The dish is simply delicious. Even though this is the standard Thai dish, don’t overlook Star of Siam’s pad thai.

The appetizer combo is a nice way to start the meal. It includes crab rangoon, spring rolls, and chicken fingers. The chicken paradise is a chicken and vegetable dish sauteed in a spicy chili sauce.

Eat Outside or Take it Home

Take the meal to go or sit outside in the garden seating. Although situated right on Route 3A, the garden seating does create an oasis right off the busy road. Since Covid, the take-out window is literally outside. Prior, customers would enter the small waiting area and be able to watch the fresh food being made in the kitchen.
