With the baseball playoffs going strong with the Hunt for Red (Sox) October, it’s time to reflect on my favorite ballpark food at Fenway Park. Long gone are the days of simply hot dogs and crackerjacks at baseball stadiums. From signature burgers to gourmet barbecue, both major and minor league ballparks across the country are full of delish delights. Starting at America’s Most Beloved Ballpark, we will investigate the food options.
Ballpark Cuisine
The most legendary menu item at Fenway is the Fenway Frank, which is a fine choice but is truly just a hot dog and an overpriced one at that. Tasty Burger, a local burger chain provides hamburgers. Tasty Burger makes a fine burger which is also a good option at Fenway Park. Of course, nachos are popular. Even some unusual choices such as veggie burgers, salads, burritos, and Asian cuisine can be found here.
When I go to Fenway, I’m not looking for a gourmet meal. What I am looking for is taste though. To me, this comes in the shape of the Italian sausage, with peppers and onions on a sub roll. There are options inside Fenway for a fine variation of this staple although I prefer to explore the food carts on the outside of the park.
Italian Sausage the Best Ballpark Food at Fenway Park
My typical go-to is the Sausage Guy. In my opinion, this cart grills the best sausage. The Sausage Guy can be found outside the bleacher seating on Lansdowne Street. During my last Sox game though, he was nowhere to be found. Much to my chagrin, with many to choose from, I enjoyed the fare at Bianco’s sweet and hot Italian sausage. Noticing their Piantedosi Bakery rolls, a much loved and lauded bakery from Malden, I chose this sausage.
Eating it after the game, my hunger was all-consuming but I enjoyed every bite. The mix of grilled meat, with veggies on a soft baked roll, is truly the perfect combo. For years, I resisted the allure of the street sausage although the smell is as enticing as the siren’s song. Finally, two years ago, at a Sox versus Indians game, friends ordered one. Since then the rest is history. To me, the grilled sausage is a Fenway Park mainstay. A truly craveable food for me at the ballpark.
Although my favorite Fenway food is actually located outside of the ballpark, they allow guests to bring it inside. It’s also cheaper than the Fenway fare inside the park. To me the Italian sausage, peppers, and onions is the ultimate ballpark food at Fenway Park.
