Box Pick #3: Ole Mole

As my son dipped his hand way into the restaurant randomizer box, I waited with bated breath to find out my destiny. Out he pulls a slip of paper and written on it is “Ole Mole.” I quickly perform a Google search to see if this restaurant is still in existence and realize that I’m heading to Stamford, Connecticut.

And the winner is…. Ole Mole!

Ole Mole, or a branch of it, was formerly located in Fairfield, CT. I knew the name from my days visiting the region, although I do not believe I was ever there. Since that time, almost twenty years ago, Ole Mole has been in the restaurant randomizer.

When to get there?

Inside Ole Mole in Stamford.

Stamford is a difficult city to reach since it is a good hour and a half from my parents’ house in Norwich and over three hours from my home in Plymouth. I quite honestly tried to figure how I could ever get here without making it a huge production. That opportunity arrived with two hungry kids on a ride back from New Jersey.

And from the outside

Spending the night in Bridgewater, New Jersey, we left around 11 in the morning. An hour into the drive, the kids started complaining of hunger. I knew where we could find a meal! Or actually, a place that we would HAVE to eat at! Ole Mole saved the day!

My burrito

Ole Mole is located conveniently just off the Merritt Parkway at 1030 High Ridge Road in Stamford. Arriving at the restaurant, I first noticed that it is on the smaller side and located in a strip mall on a busy road. With the tables both inside and out, we opted to eat in.

Inviting patio

The server was friendly and we ordered our food. Our meal began with chips and homemade salsa which had a twang of heat, which I like. As a starter, we shared a side of guacamole to accompany the chips. I chose a standard chicken burrito, others had cheese quesadillas, and my mom had enchiladas. Everyone was pleased with their meal. After having a bite of the enchiladas, I think this was the best choice although the burrito was terrific as well.

The restaurant is bright with a few tables by the front window and alongside the front counter. It is cheery with a Mexican-style vibe to it.

Thank you restaurant randomizer for choosing Ole Mole. It was the perfect stop for hungry travelers driving through Western Connecticut! If I’m in the area, I would certainly go back.
