With all of the dining options available in Plymouth, sometimes I look for a tried and true classic such as Cafe Strega. Cafe Strega is an Italian restaurant that is perfect for every occasion. It is comfortable for an any-night meal but is also perfect for a night out.
Cafe Strega’s location is utterly fantastic. It overlooks the serene Brewster Gardens from its perch atop Main Street Extension. Cafe Strega has a bar side and a restaurant side. The restaurant side resembles a greenhouse with large glass windows that provide an exquisite view. In the warmer months, they also have outdoor dining which is literally above Brewster Gardens.
Appetizers
Even though the view is spectacular, the view wouldn’t matter if the food did not deliver. Don’t worry. It does and then some! For an appetizer, my go-to is the meatballs. These are softball size beauties that are simply delicious and meaty. The pear and mascarpone-filled pasta appetizer is an interesting combination, with the tastes complementing each other fantastically.
Entrees at Cafe Strega
For an entree, my favorite dish has to be the Zuppa di Crostacei, which is a flavorful bouillabaisse of shrimp, calamari, mussels, and clams. The seafood is sauteed in a tomato sauce, which blends the tastes in a wonderful seafood medley.
Other dishes, including Spaghetti alla Vongole, which is clams over pasta, and the chicken parmigiana are also superb choices at Cafe Strega. When manager Zura Asatashvili was asked what the most popular dishes at Cafe Strega are, he replied, “It’s hard to say but if I had to point out some of the most popular dishes it is the Frutti di Mare, Pollo Saltimbocca, and our meatballs.”
Always Consistent
Plymouth’s restaurant scene has changed greatly in the last few years. Higher end restaurants and gastro pubs have replaced sports bars and mediocre eateries. What has not changed though is Cafe Strega. It opened over 20 years ago and its sister restaurant, the equally delicious and very cozy Tuscany Tavern located up the road in North Plymouth, opened soon after.
Zura continues to say that he loves being in the restaurant business in Plymouth. “We made Plymouth our family home and have been doing business here for over twenty years. We really appreciate the sense of community and friendship that this town has to offer.”
Tastes and fads ebb and flow; Plymouth restaurants come and go. What does not change is Cafe Strega. It has been dishing out the finest Italian cuisine for almost two decades.
