Backyard Road Trips

Long Live Beerworks

On a recent trip with the family to the Roger Williams Zoo, afterward, I took a much-anticipated detour to Long Live Beerworks in Providence. Its location is just off of Route 1 in a rehabilitated mill complex on Sprague Street. This brewery is well-hyped for good reason. With an ultra-cool location and top-notch beer, Long Live Beerworks is a winner.

The sign marks the location of Long Live Beerworks

For the uninitiated, the entrance to the brewery is a bit confusing. I knew that the brewery’s location was within the industrial factory setting but I did not see signs. After parking in a lot on the south side of Sprague Street and a quick walk through the interior walkway, I spotted Long Live Beer Works.

Post-industrial use into housing and a brewery

Due to COVID restrictions, the taproom is currently not open for on-site consumption. No problem here though since there is a collection of tables and chairs for outdoor sipping. Picking up beer at the to-go window, the interior of the taproom looked inviting. It has a modern industrial feel with brick walls, wood, and shining beer tanks.

What I took home- DDH Black Cat Double IPA

There were only a few to-go options. One was a quintuple IPA which, quite honestly, at over 12% ABV I was a bit intimidated by. There was also a pastry stout at 10%. I opted for the DDH (Double Dry Hopped) Black Cat Double IPA. The beer pours a juicy hue of orange. The taste is nicely balanced, citrusy with the dry hop finish. Quite honestly, this dry-hopped DIPA is one of the best I’ve had in this style.
