Backyard Road Trips

Kent’s Point and Other Orleans Favorites

In the continuous pursuit of walks for social distancing, I recently visited Kent’s Point in Orleans, Massachusetts. Cape Cod always has an allure and finding out of the way, but beautiful places on the Cape is a mission of mine. Kent’s Point fit the bill for this completely.

The continuous search for walks on Cape Cod

Kent’s Point is accessed via a walking trail at the end of Keziah’s Lane in Orleans. Approaching the parking lot, where the road is unpaved and rutty, you’re almost there. After parking, take a look at the information kiosk. Honestly, the map here makes this area seem really large and the trails confusing. To the right of the parking lot and the sign seems like it would be the trail. It is, but it is also an access road for handicapped parking. Accessible parking which brings you closer to the water is available for those who need it.

On the trail

Feel free to take this road if you wish, but the actual trail is just to the left of the kiosk. The trail dips into the woods, but soon climbs up where it meets with the access road once again. I headed straight across on the path that lines the perimeter of the park. Kent’s Point is a peninsula into the bay. At the park, there is water on three sides.

Waterside views all around

My suggestion is to take the trail that circles by the waterside. There is beach access here. Not a wide sandy beach, but access to the water. It affords gorgeous views and the kids enjoyed a quick romp in the water. We continued the walk around the perimeter and then headed back via the access road. Standing in the middle of the point, you can see water on three sides.

Follow the leader

Kent’s Point is by no means an all-day adventure as it is small in size. It does provide a beautiful escape from busy Cape Cod. It also allows for water access which is highly coveted on the Cape. In happening on this parcel of land on a whim, it is definitely a place I’d go back to.

With water views on all sides, Kent’s Point is worth the trip

Orleans has much to offer. Of course, it has beautiful beaches such as Nauset Beach and a quaint downtown. It is also home to the Hog Island Beer Company. They have a great spot on West Road. Connected to the property is the Jailhouse Tavern, the old town jail, is operated by the same owners. They are opening up for outdoor dining this week. I just stopped by for curbside pickup on this trip.

Orleans Firebirds and the Corner Store

Eldredge Park, home of the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod Leage

Sadly the Cape Cod Baseball League will not play this year. In the center of Orleans, at Eldredge Field is where the Firebirds play. It’s a great spot to catch a game. On this trip though, we ate burritos here from the Corner Store. The kids enjoyed exploring the baseball diamond. Letting them romp around for a while was needed. I really enjoyed the buffalo ranch chicken burrito. It was very tasty, with great flavor, and enjoyed the crunch of the celery which I’ve never had in a burrito before.

Grabbed a couple of burritos from the Corner Store in Orleans

Orleans has so many great destinations. Among my favorites include Kent’s Point, Hog Island Beer Company, the Corner Store and Eldredge Field, home of the Orleans Firebirds. It’s definitely worth a visit if you’re on the Cape this summer.

I highly recommend the burrito from the Corner Store
