Cape Cod Pizza

Cape Cod Cafe

Ever since the strenuous research I conducted for the “Best places for bar pizza and craft beer” on the South Shore article, I’ve really got a taste for bar pizza. With that article, parameters were set, craft beer was on the menu, and the location was on the South Shore. That eliminated a lot of options that were south of Boston, but not technically a part of the South Shore, such as Cape Cod Cafe, Town Spa in Stoughton, and The Lynwood in Randolph.

Take-Out Only at Cape Cod Cafe

With the current pandemic, restaurants in Massachusetts have either resorted to take-out or have put their operations on hiatus. I decided to try Cape Cod Cafe to go. First, and confusingly, the Cape Cod Cafe is NOT on Cape Cod. Established by the Jamoulis Family over 70 years ago, it now has expanded to five branches, all in southeastern Massachusetts, but the Brockton location is the original and has the classic old school vibe as many bar pizza joints do.

As take-out is currently the only option, I decided to forgo the atmosphere of the original Brockton location in favor of the closest branch geographically. For me, it’s the Halifax restaurant. It is located at 300 Plymouth Street in a strip mall in the commercial center of Halifax.

I ordered two pies: cheese and a Chicken Caesar pizza. Both were the small, classic bar pizza size. At this branch, the larger Sicilian style is also an option, but the Cape Cod Cafe is known for its bar pizza, so this was the only choice for me. The inside of this restaurant was small but tastefully designed, with an array of tables and chairs with a counter to order and television to watch. The interior though is modern, not reminiscent of an old school pizza place.

The Cape Cod Cafe Pizza Test

I took the pizzas home and they were still warm after the 20 minutes or so drive home. Both pizzas did not disappoint. The cheese was classic bar pizza; the tangy cheese taste with the crunch of the crust was the perfect combo. The Chicken Caesar pizza was a great choice too. I enjoy such creations as Damien’s Pub’s BLT pizza in Hanson and the Greek Salad pizza at the Black Raspberry Pub Plymouth, so I opted to go fancy here too.

The Chicken Caesar pizza featured the dressing underneath the layer of cheese with large chunks of chicken and generous slices of shaved parmesan on top. Just as the pizzas mentioned above, it totally worked. Putting these toppings on the classic bar pizza crispy crust resulted in a pizza to remember.

Hopefully, during my next visit, I’ll be able to venture to Brockton for a dine-in experience but for now, take-out from the Halifax satellite was a perfect way to support a local business and also enjoy two great pizzas.
