Hidden Valley Bed and Breakfast

For a taste of the European countryside in New England, book a weekend at the Hidden Valley Bed and Breakfast in Washington Depot, Connecticut. Overlooking the rolling Litchfield Hills, this chateau styled inn is simply breathtaking, inside and out. It offers three rooms, two in the second floor of the main house and a separate larger room in one of the wings. This room, called the ‘red room’, has its own walk out patio. I visited in early autumn and was simply blown away by the atmosphere. Located up a winding driveway literally hidden off of Route 47, the end of the steep driveway feels like a world away from its surroundings. We were able to savor a welcome bottle of Prosecco on the stone patio as we watched the sun drop behind a nearby hill. The first floor is lavishly decorated with period furnishings, but instead of feeling stuffy is quite welcoming. The gracious inn keeper, Regine, made sure we were well taken care of. She stoked the fire, provided area travel literature in the bedroom and cooked a scrumptious breakfast in the morning. Make sure you’re a dog lover since the household pets had the run of the inn. The charm of Washington Depot and surrounding Litchfield County is not to be missed. Fantastic restaurants like the GW Tavern, White Horse Tavern and @ the corner provided welcome rest stops in between wine tastings at the Miranda Vineyard and the Haight-Brown Winery (try the honey nut apple wine), meandering scenic drives and even a peek into the state’s most notorious locale, Dudleytown! Do yourself a favor, book a few nights at the Hidden Valley Bed and Breakfast and explore the off-the-beaten path gems of Litchfield County.
